Find a Bibliography Helper
Bibliographies are a pain. There’s finicky, fiddly, and hard to format. So why do we keep them? The answer is that they’re an incredibly important part of a good paper. A bibliography helps you show appropriate credit to the person whose work you’re using. It shows that you’re responsible, good at finding good sources, and organized. Furthermore, it gives credit to others that help boost their academic profile. A bibliography is also important to getting good grades. If you’re doing an annotated one, it helps you critically analyze and defend your sources. All in all, it’s a crucial part of your paper that can’t be ignored – no matter how much trouble it may be! But we have a few tips to help you out on that.
Getting Bibliography Services
BBC’s GSCE Bitesize column suggests that you should keep your bibliography up to date while you’re writing, rather than build it afterward. Though this might sound confusing, it’ll help you keep everything straight. If you don’t do this, you might lose track of what source you used for what facts, and you may also forget which page numbers you used. The best thing to do is to make a list of all the sources you’re planning on using and create the citations beforehand. That way, when you need to do in an in-text, citation, it’s a breeze! All you have to do is copy and paste the info and add the page number. You can even prepare a section of your in-text citations so that you only have to cut and paste them into your paper.

Are you wondering about how to cite properly? Let us help you. Here’s a breakdown of the three most common citation styles and how to use them. We’ve chosen to use the text The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien, since it’s commonly recognizable but not special enough to take a different kind of style.
MLA style: Tolkien, J. R. R. The Fellowship Of The Ring. 2014 ed. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 1954. Print.
APA style: Tolkien, J.R.R. (1954). The fellowship of the ring (2014 ed.). Boston: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
Chicago style: Tolkien, J. R. R. 1954. The Fellowship Of The Ring. 2024 ed. Boston: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.
As you can see, there are several differences between the three styles. Although it’s not obvious on this particular work, in MLA you use an author’s full name, not just initials – it’s just that Tolkien only used his initials when writing! Beyond that, MLA doesn’t use the date of publication, Chicago puts it right beside the name, and APA puts it in parentheses. You can see also that APA chooses to keep the title capitalization found in the actual book, whereas MLA and Chicago standardize it.
Although these are small changes, they’re very significant. Citing incorrectly can have strong consequences – some professors will even mark you for plagiarism if you put a period out of place, as harsh as that is. If you use APA when you should have used MLA, or mix elements of two styles, you could get a bad grade or worse. As such, it’s very important that you get your citation style correct.
